Led by Dr Michael Duggan, we bring together specialist veterinary knowledge, clinical experience, academic research and scientific publication with the ability to critically evaluate complex veterinary evidence and communicate it clearly to legal and non-veterinary audiences.

Expert Witness Services

Dr Duggan has acted as a veterinary expert in civil and criminal matters and accepts instructions in cases falling within his areas of professional competence. Expert work may include review of veterinary and medical records, analysis of clinical management and veterinary evidence, review of relevant scientific literature, preparation of independent expert opinions and reports, conferences with legal teams, and expert testimony where required.

Areas in which specialist veterinary input may be relevant include (but are not limited to) veterinary medicine and surgery with particular expertise in equine cases including pre-purchase examinations (PPE), veterinary clinical decision-making, veterinary negligence, veterinary treatment and its complications, animal injury and animal welfare, personal injury, adverse analytical findings (anti-doping) and the interpretation of complex veterinary and scientific evidence.

Previous instructions have included matters involving workplace personal injury, equine injury during transport and road traffic collisions.

All instructions are considered individually and strictly confidential to ensure that the matter falls within the expert's area of competence and that there is no conflict of interest. When acting as an expert witness, our overriding duty is to provide an independent, objective and evidence-based opinion in accordance with the requirements of the relevant body.
